Day 8. This week started off very quiet with just my boys and 2 mindees. We enjoyed a day of relaxed free play. I have been sent some wooden blocks to review so I offered these up as a free choice resource and also made sure there was a good choice of small world toys to add to it.
Little "R" took a liking to these as soon as she arrived and used them along side one of her favourite toys, the Happyland figures.
"X" and "R" worked together to make a garage for cars once he arrived. Little "R" chose to build a road leading to the garage and then drove the cars over it.
She also enjoyed making a seat! We have several sets of building blocks but these larger blocks are fantastic for more large scale imaginative construction play. The set we are using are found here at Early Years Resources.
Little "X" enjoyed lots of small world play with the giant insects and the safari animals. He spends lots of time grouping and sorting them. Lining them up in front of him. In this set of photos you can see that his Eagle is trying to catch some dinner!
Another favourite resource in my setting are the stacking dolls. It is an area the I would like to expand on. There is a set of people and a set of Elephants. They are great for encouraging mathematical language, sequencing and organising.
We have been joining in with the Summer reading scheme set up by the library. Kenzie has been working his way through some books already.
We also enjoyed some clay modelling. This is a bit harder to work with than play dough, so is a more challenging activity. It also works the finger muscles harder, so it is great for pre-schoolers.
They used some of the tools available to attach sections of clay, blend, make holes and marks and to shape their clay!
We had a few rounds of the animal pattern matching game. This is enjoyed daily at the moment!
I taught my boys some card games. We found these over sized playing cards in the pound shop.
Later in the afternoon we settled down to watch the Lego movie.........
This inspired some Lego play of their own. Master builders in the making.
Little "X" set up his animals again and chatted to them all. He looks like King of the Animals!
