LINKING CUBES

The children really seem to enjoy these coloured blocks. I found them for a good price online and thought it might be a good way to turn the interest in block style play with Minecraft, in to a hands on construction activity.

They are often selected and come out most days. The older children have clearly seen the same Minecraft link that I have and they give each colour an element. They then layer them up in the order they are mined in.
The younger children make towers and group the blocks by colour. They share them out and use colour names to identify which blocks are their's and which blocks other children are playing with.

They enjoy making patterns from the blocks on the base plate. Sometimes they make lines of one colour and sometimes they make these cute blocks of colour!

Today's play, meets the following EYFS Prime and specific areas:
  • Communication and language
  • Physical Development
  • Expressive Art and Design
  • Mathematics
