COMPLETING PUZZLES - ASSESSING CURRENT DEVELOPMENT

As part of my current Mathematical focus, I am looking at how well each child car complete puzzles.
All of the children have been trying out the 4 and 6 piece puzzles this week and it has been great to see the progression in such a short time.
Everyone found the 4 piece quiet easy, especially after completing it once. But I think it was a good confidence boost and each child liked to return to it after getting stuck on the 6 piece.

I chose puzzles that had pictures of something that would interest the children and also that were not to gender focused. It was quite hard to find something gender neutral as we progressed up the line to more pieces. Everything seems to be pink and lilac and covered in Disney princesses or Covered in Thomas and Lightning Macqueen.
These puzzles were really sweet though. Children looking after their pets!

NEXT STEPS:
    • continue with 4 and 6 piece puzzles but start to offer 9 and 12 piece next week.
