SILLY, FAT DADDY PIG. YOU ARE SO NAUGHTY! What are we teaching our children?

What is Peppa Pig teaching our children?

I am not saying that all tv should have an educational quality. I grew up on drug induced kids tv. "Jamie and the magic torch" and "magic Roundabout", so I fully appreciate a good 10 minute program of silliness. But Peppa Pig is something else.

She is not just a bossy little know all that quite honestly does nothing for her brothers self esteem, but she is down right rude to her dad. What does mummy pig do when this happens? She joins in! They actually bully Daddy Pig!!

He is called Silly. Naughty and Fat on a daily basis and laughed at. He is so down trodden that he just accepts his lot in life and the domestic abuse continues.

Our very influential 2 and 3 year olds do not distinguish reality and fiction in the same way adults do. They take what they see and mimic it. So what Peppa is teaching our little ones is how to be a spoilt, rude and disrespectful brats, who shouts at their friends and parents, sticks their tongue out when they can't get what they wants and to shame every person they see who is overweight.

I know this is just a bit of fun and a tv show...... but we underestimate what our children take in. It is worth a bit of thought from us adults I think. I am sure there are better programs out there that children could enjoy!

THE NAME WRITING IS COMING ALONG!

Practice is making perfect! Painting large letters on the patio in water, marking letters in the mud when out on walks. Mark making and threading activities, and now tracing over the letters with a pen.

All this has led to some pretty awesome attempts at managing to write her name by herself!

I think she made a pretty good job of this!

ANIMALS AND THEIR YOUNG -TODDLER MATCHING GAME

A real fun and simple, cheap activity to do with little ones is to cut out pictures of animals and then pictures of their young. laminate them if you wish so that they can be used over and over.
The children love to look at the pictures and recognise the animals. They can make animals sounds for the picture they select or you can make a sound (if you are good at that sort of thing) and see if your child can find the matching animal.
Introduce your child to the sets of animals. The babies that match each parent.
Use the correct language for each baby animal. For example "lamb" or "calf".

STICKER ART FOR TODDLERS

Stickers a great tool for little artists. Peeling off the sticker backs and placing them on the paper is a great fine motor skill and gets little hands working in a very controlled way. Many little ones need some support initially but soon get the hang of it!
The end art work is bright and vibrant. No wrong or right way. No end product that the adult manipulates to achieve. This is all their own work, all about the process and always looks amazing when they finish!
